FIBER/TEXTILES
I have always been interested in textiles and the magic of creating fabric from threads. Weaving is a curious blend of precision and freedom - weave structure varies little, but materials chosen can make surprising differences in the final product.Textile creation goes back thousands of years across almost all cultures - I like being a small part of this history.
During the many years I lived and worked overseas, I was drawn to the weavers of different cultures, from the rough pit looms of upper Egypt to the incredibly complex silk tapestry looms in Thailand. My work on an eight-harness loom lies somewhere between these two extremes. My emphasis is on texture and color, with occasional forays into traditional patterns. My goal is to create utilitarian pieces that are a pleasure to use.
