POTTERY /CLAY
A native of Long Island, New York, I came to school in North Carolina and have lived here ever since. I began studying and working with clay in the early 1970s. In addition to numerous workshops, I studied pottery privately with Pam Leonard and attended Penland School of Arts & Crafts for many summers. Under the direction of Rick Crown, I continued my studies at Queens College in Charlotte. Meanwhile I pursued a full-time career in education, first as a teacher, then principal, and finally assistant superintendent in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with the "magic" of taking a ball of clay and creating something both functional and beautiful. For this reason, most of my work is thrown on the wheel. I enjoy the idea of creating forms that can be used as palettes for the interaction of glaze upon glaze. My love of nature coupled with my admiration for the work of the Japanese Masters has inspired me and has influenced the direction of my work. Now retired, I have time to devote to my passion. I am "into pots" and loving every minute of it!
