I discovered the lost art of pine needle basketry in the early 1990's, when I purchased a house that had over 100 long leaf pine trees on its property. I soon developed my own pine needle basket-making style, incorporating many natural materials into the work including sliced black walnuts, hickory nuts, and bamboo. In 2001 I created my own business, Pine Garden Baskets.
Over the last several years, I began adding clay components to the pine needle baskets, taking the work into a new and exciting direction. I've received a Regional Artist Grant from the Cumberland County/Fayetteville Arts Council in 2009, a Merit Award (2010) from the Buyers Market of American Craft, and was a Finalist for the prominent Niche Award offered in 2011. My work is currently located in 41 galleries throughout the country.
