I have worked in many mediums over the years focusing mainly on fabric. I am a self-taught artist with no formal training, just a few random classes and the desire to create beautiful art from nature.
When I moved to North Carolina from Connecticut in 2000, I was introduced to traditional pine needle coiling. Once I saw coiling applied to gourds, a whole new creative world opened up to me.
I have taught, shown my work, and won several awards throughout the southeast: "Through Women's Eyes by Women's Hands" at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, NC, Burroughs/Chapin Art Museum Myrtle Beach, SC, and the Waccamaw Arts & Crafts Guild as well as North Carolina Basket Association and Autumn with Topsail on Topsail Island, NC, to name a few.
I was also a featured artist in Speaking to Your Ancestors at Woman Made Gallery in Chicago, Columbus County Arts Council in Whiteville, NC. Three Women Show in Connecticut, and Coiling Artist Show in Wilmington, NC.
My love for this art encourages me to use other natural materials, grasses & pods as well as metals, wire and glass beads and gives me the freedom to design not only functional pine needle baskets but also wonderful and unusual art pieces.
